Choosing a turnstile for your access area
Turnstiles physically regulate pedestrian entry and exit. Tripod turnstiles and speed gates differ in their use of space and passage experience. Products should be selected alongside expected traffic and entrance dimensions.
- Evaluating tripod or speed gate models
- Planning access with card, QR or biometric readers
- Considering accessible passage and emergency routes
What do we consider for your project?
Passage width, floor structure and electrical connections are reviewed before installation. Evacuation scenarios and accessibility needs should be assessed for the facility as a whole.

Frequently asked questions
Can turnstiles and Time & Attendance work together?
Records from a turnstile’s reader can be evaluated using compatible Time & Attendance software. Data transfer and user matching are checked within the project scope.
What information should I share for a quotation?
Sharing the setting, number of users or access points and existing infrastructure helps the initial assessment. You can also include device models and project drawings, if available.
Differences between tripod, speed gate and full-height turnstiles
Tripod turnstiles use a three-arm passage mechanism. Speed gates use a gated corridor and can be considered for office and visitor entrances. Full-height turnstiles form a full-height physical passage. Select a model according to the site, traffic and technical specifications.
Why do turnstile prices vary by model and project?
Housing and mechanism type, corridor count, passage width, readers and installation conditions affect cost. When comparing proposals, check whether shipping, installation, software connectivity and support are included. For throughput, consider the reader and authentication time as well as the turnstile.
Card-operated turnstiles and employee tracking integration
A card reader or selected authentication device works with the system that manages users and access permissions. With a compatible Time & Attendance connection, passage records can support attendance review. User matching, data transfer and emergency passage must be defined within the project.
