Managing entry and exit using number plates
A Automatic Number Plate Recognition system reads vehicle number plates from camera images and supplies data to the car park or facility access process. Comparing the plate with an authorised vehicle list and linking it to a barrier depends on the selected system design.
- Defining authorised vehicle and visitor access scenarios
- Assessing camera angle, reading distance and lighting
- Planning barrier and access record connections
What do we consider for your project?
Day and night conditions, vehicle approach direction and speed should be examined on site. Reading performance is affected by environmental conditions, making an on-site assessment important.

How do number plate recognition and barrier access work together?
The vehicle approaches the reading point, the camera captures its plate and the software evaluates it. If the authorisation scenario permits access, an opening command is sent to the barrier. Vehicle detection and safety equipment needed for safe closure are planned separately; plate recognition alone does not replace vehicle safety detection.
What site conditions matter when choosing a number plate recognition system?
Lane width, camera position, vehicle approach angle and night lighting are assessed. Employee and visitor vehicles may require different authorisation workflows. Entrance photographs, lane numbers and the existing barrier model can be shared before a proposal; reading conditions should be verified on site.

Frequently asked questions
Can it connect to an existing barrier?
Integration can be assessed if the barrier’s control inputs and the system’s outputs are compatible. The existing barrier’s model and connection details should be reviewed.
What information should I share for a quotation?
Sharing the setting, number of users or access points and existing infrastructure helps the initial assessment. You can also include device models and project drawings, if available.
